Queer and Faithfilled
When you start a project that is out in the wilderness and the weeds, trying to imagine new ways of practicing faith and welcoming others outcasts, misfits, and Wanderers - it is easy to feel lonely.
The validation, support, and community of the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists for Chapel of the Open Hearth is an incredible balm. We aren't out here alone, and others have evaluated us and determined we are legitimate. We're so used to being insulted and condemned for our wild faith that to be supported is a wondrous turn of events.
Looking forward to building community with other affirming communities.
We are proud to be Heathens and practice a free faith that lets us explore sacred stories and follow the Way of Jesus in ways that are true to our journey.
We are proud to be queer-led and LGBTQIA+ inclusive.
I know our affiliation with Baptists confuses many people and is certainly something we're happy to talk about. But don't worry, the Southern Baptists fully think that this Chapel is a false and dangerous movement. So we aren’t throwing away our Heathen Christianity cred.
We’re also really excited to be listed on the gaychurch directory. It is an honor to bring a rainbow faith to Brevard, NC.
