A Map Through the Mists

This map is the spiritual ecosystem in which the Chapel of the Open Hearth breathes. Its eight landmarks unite our ministries, practices, and dreams into a shared vision of sacred community.

One day, we may steward physical space that reflects this land; our spirits are already cultivating it. We are currently tending this land with every prayer, worship, pilgrimage, and protest.

1  The Chapel — Refuge & Worship

A warm, rustic sanctuary gathered around a fireplace, table, food, prayer, and fellowship.
Today it lives through in-person worship, virtual vespers, spiritual direction, pastoral care, shared meals, and liturgical resources for pilgrims wherever they are.

2  The Amphitheater — Story & Sacred Imagination

An outdoor home for worship, music, theatre, art, and stories that open the imagination toward prophecy.
Today it lives through sacred storytelling, creative workshops, support for local artists, the Campfire Canon, and Crossroads, our collective mythmaking retreat experience.

3  The Memorial Grove — Grief & Belonging Across Generations

A conservation churchyard where loved ones rest within a landscape being restored.
Today it lives through grief care, memorial services, rites of passage, end-of-life accompaniment, and relationships with conservation cemeteries.

4  The Walking Trails — Contemplation & Creation

Rustic paths among native plants and small shrines, inviting pilgrims into encounter with God in the living world.
Today, they live through guided Creation Pilgrimages, contemplative photography, nature-based prayer, and Creation Pilgrimage Guide training.

5  The Rustic Cabins — Sabbath & Hospitality

Simple cabins and camp spaces where guests can slow down, rest, and continue conversations beside the fire.
Today they live through Sabbath practices, retreats, and a culture that places the weariest travelers nearest the warmth.

6  The Fairy Woodland — Play & Intergenerational Life

An accessible, nature-based play space for imagination, movement, discovery, and delight across ages and abilities.
Today it lives wherever we make room for holy play and honor every generation as essential to the community.

7  The Community Garden — Formation & Mutual Aid

A place to work the soil, grow nourishing food, and share the harvest with the Chapel kitchen and local food pantries.
Today it lives through meals, community care, harm-reduction support, and mutual aid.

8  The Woodland Stream — Baptism & Service Beyond Ourselves

A current running through the entire ecosystem: deep and playful, local and always moving outward.
Today it lives through baptism, peacemaking, community organizing, justice work, and service to the wider world.
